Free QuickTime 5.0.2 or greater Plugin Required

.

All of the videos on this site require that you have the latest version (6) of QuickTime Plugin / Active X installed on your browser.

The plugin is required for either Windows-based PC or MacOS-based Apple computers, using either Netscape, Internet Explorer, iCab, Opera and AOL browsers. *NIX flavors are not currently supported.

All videos on this site are encoded using Sorenson 3 for the video codec setting and QDesign Music2 for stereo audio or Qualcomm PureVoice for mono audio.

Sorenson 3 is the latest version and is included free in QuickTime 5 or greater. It allows multimedia authors to maintain a relatively high quality while compressing the size of the file about 25-35% smaller than Sorenson 2, 45-60% smaller than MPEG 1 and a gazillion times smaller than AVI.
Bottom line - - high quality, less size, faster download, mo' betta web video experience.

Troubleshooting Tips

I already have it, but I can't see the video.
If you already installed QuickTime, but you still can't see the video -- the problem is that some plugin files didn't copy over properly, and you'll have to copy them yourself manually. Apple knows about the problem, but you still have to fix it manually.
First,
check for the existence of the QuickTime Plugin files.

I can hear the audio, but I can't see the video.
This means that you probably .... don't have the QuickTime Plugin, have an older version of the Plugin, don't have it properly installed, or that rasslefrassle #@%@!! Windows Media Player plugin is taking over again.

If you have installed the QuickTime Plugin, you can modify the Mime settings for the QT plugin.
Start > Settings > Control Panel > QuickTime > Browser Plug-in > Mime Settings. Make sure there is a "+" next to "QuickTime Movie" (mov, qt). If there is, double click until it is gone, then double click again until it is back.

Also, check your Mime Settings. In Netscape (Edit > Preferences > Navigator > Applications). There should be an entry for "QuickTime Movie" and it should be "MIME Type: video/quicktime" and "Handled by: Plugin." If not, exit your browser, and then restart it.

Why QuickTime?

We've chosen QuickTime for various reasons. First and foremost is the relatively high quality that QuickTime provides in a relatively small file. Progressive HTTP Downloading, seamless integration in the web page, simple and nice-looking controls, and great support make QuickTime the embedded player of choice.

But don't just take our word for it, ask the Producers of LORD OF THE RINGS why they canceled a lucrative cash deal with Real Player and reverted back to QuickTime as their exclusive internet media format.

With all the variables of video delivery over the internet, these content creators CARE about how their work looks by the time it finally gets to you, the end user.
WiMP's instability / muddy images -or- Real's dropped video frames for audio's sake are simply not acceptable solutions for visual content creators who care about a quality experience for the end user.

A QuickTime Plugin for both the PC and Mac is available at no cost (synonym for FREE) at the QuickTime Download Site. Just fill out the form at the bottom of that page and the QuickTime download will begin.

IE 5.5 SP2/ 6 do not work.
Windows users who have updated their copies of Internet Explorer to version 5.5 SP2 or 6.0 often encounter a "broken plug-in" icon when they try to play a QuickTime movie in the browser, or an error message saying the plugin did not load.

This is a Microsoft created problem found ONLY in Windows versions of Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 and 6.0. Users of other Windows browsers like Opera or Netscape -- or Safari, Camino, Netscape and even IE for Macintosh -- are totally unaffected.

If you've arrived at this page from a google search, you have already figured out that Microsoft does not even acknowledge this issue. Nor do they provide you, the end user, with any support about how to fix the mess THEY made. (Gee, go figure.)

Apple's web site has a special page of information explaining the problem. The page also contains a link where users who wish to get the fix by updating to the latest free version of QuickTime for Windows may do so. This latest version of the player for Windows includes a QuickTime ActiveX file that should solve your problems.

How do I know if I have the QuickTime Plugin?

Installation Check
If you see the big white and blue QuickTime logo in the large yellow box to the right, the basic software you need to view movies is installed properly. Otherwise, click the picture below that matches what you see in the big frame to the right. Note: "Broken Plug-in" pictures vary between web browsers.

Visit the QuickTime support area for additional help.

Netscape Plug-in Check:
  1. On the next page, you will see a listing of all of your plugins installed in your browser. Verify that the words "QuickTime Plug-In" exist on that page.
  2. Check your Browser
  3. If you cannot find it, then you need to Download QuickTime.
  4. If you do find it, verify the version installed is QuickTime by doing the following:
    1. Start > Settings > Control Panel > QuickTime Settings
    2. Verify that the "About QuickTime" section states "QuickTime 5.0.2 or newer". Anything else doesn't contain the correct codecs for you to watch the movie.
  5. If the plugin loads, but the video doesn't play, you can check the plugin version by clicking on the down arrow button on the far right bottom corner, and choosing "About QuickTime Plug-in." Verify that the plugin is "Plug-in Version 5.0.2 or greater".

If not, you need to re-install QuickTime.

If you need to upgrade, visit:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

After installation, make sure you EXIT your browser and restart it. Otherwise you may have problems.

Sometimes the QuickTime Installer doesn't put things in the right place. This may also happen if you think that QuickTime is installed properly, but you still can't see the video.

Look for these files on your hard drive (specifically in your browsers plugin directory):

PC:
npqtplugin.dll
npqtplugin2.dll
npqtplugin3.dll

MAC:
QuickTimePlugin

PC Users Note: Make sure you choose the options to show all files -- otherwise you might not find these files!

Common Places (Click on Links to browse your hard drive):
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\plugins\
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\Plugins\

If they aren't in your browsers plugin directory, you can most likely find them in your QuickTime/Plugins directory.

Just copy them from there into your browser's Plugin Directory.
(Click link to browse your hard drive)
C:\Program Files\Quick Time\Plugins\
